No-exam life insurance

Which applicants get expedited decisions, the process involved, and what happens for those who don't qualify.

Modern underwriting for qualified applicants uses expedited approvals: instead of a paramedic visit, carriers review your application, medication records, driving history and other available data. Approvals sometimes come within hours. Each quote displays whether an exam is mandatory, optional or waived for that plan.

What it changes

Quick approval doesn't bypass underwriting—your answers get verified, and misstatements in a policy can be challenged in the first two years. If the carrier spots anything through data checks, they can ask for an exam or tests; you decide whether to go forward.

Who tends to qualify

You'll likely qualify if you're below age 60, applying for amounts within the carrier's expedited limits, have a clean health background and haven't used tobacco in roughly a year or more. Some carriers waive exams if you've had recent labs at your doctor's office.

Should you need an exam, expect a 20- to 30-minute session with a paramedic at your home or workplace in the Rancho Santa Margarita region, and it's free. Exams can actually improve your rate if you're in good health—not a drawback.
