The park spans 4,500 acres and was established in 1948 when the O'Neill Ranch owners donated 278 acres for recreation; subsequent acquisitions through 1982 brought it to its current size. The park offers about 23 miles of trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, winding through native oak and sycamore forests, meadows, and chaparral-covered hillsides.
